Allama Iqbal day Speech in English for 5th to 12th Classes:
Allama lqbal was the great poet and philosopher who, perhaps more than any other single person apart from M.A. Jinnah, was responsible for the state of Pakistan.
He was a brilliant scholar, studying philosophy and law in England, and then in Germany. Back in India, he practiced law, and became the greatest Urdu poet of his age. Later, his poetry became a way of putting forward his religious and political ideas-much of this poetry was written in Persian, so that it would be widely understood throughout the Muslim world.
As early as 1910, Iqbal thought that the Muslim world should be united. His poems pointed to the glories of Islam in the past, and the miserable state it was in at the time. He called for reform, and said that to be a good Muslim was not just to sit thinking and meditating about religion, but to be active and do something positive about it.
He joined the Muslim League in 1927, when it had only 1330 members. He delivered his Presidential address at the Annual meeting of the All-India Muslim League at Allahabad in 1930, which is known as the "Allahabad Address". He explained the idea of the separate nationhood for the Muslims. Allama lqbal stressed that it should be acknowledged that the sub-continent is inhabited by people speaking different languages, practicing different religions and cultures representing various cultures. Muslim nation possesses separate religious and cultural identity. He said, " India is a sub- continent and not a country, where people belonging to different religions and speaking different languages are inhabited. Muslim nation has its unique religious and cultural identity. All civilized nations should respect religious principles, cultural and social values of Muslims". He further added: I would like to see the Punjab, the North-West Frontier Province, Sindh and Baluchistan amalgamated into a single state. Formation of a consolidated North-West Muslim State appears to be the final destiny of the Muslims, at least of North-West India." The address of Allama lqbal proved a milestone in the struggle for Pakistan. Quaid-i-Azam acknowledged the thinking ofAllama lqbal by saying "lqbal's ideas were fundamentally one with mine and I have reached the same conclusion after a close study and analysis of the constitutional problems of the sub-continent".
At the same time, other Muslim leaders were also trying to work out how some kind of agreement with Hindus could be reached, to form a single nation. Iqbal realized that this would always be dominated by the Hindus, which would be a disaster for Muslims. He had no idea, of course, that his dream of a Muslim state would become a reality in 17 years, and it is sad that he did not live to see it.
Till his death in 1938, he was in close contact with Mr Jinnah, advising him on many issues. Allama lqbal died in Lahore and is buried in the precincts of the Badshahi Mosque.
